New year, new work.

Wildgirl, 7x10 cms. hemp, cotton, linen 2013
Inspired by a photo I saw on my FB feed, from CR magazine, Gareth Pugh, I wove this. The 'wild' and hairy nature of the original photo, and the rya knotting in this piece go together, I think. This piece is really little 7 x 10 cms. I wove it using the "stick" method, that I did the tutorial about...I'll probably show it using the tiny frame I wove it on.
Octopus girl, Inkjet print, watercolour, ink. 16 x15.5 cm 2014
This is a new idea I'm working on, and this is the first. Limited editions of my drawings, painted...in effect, little, original paintings, but in series, if that makes sense. This is number 1 of probably 5 or 6. More pieces will be added as I get to them. So much fun to do. I will make a bit of a big thing about it, when my Bigcartel shop is ready.
Looking forward to 2014...!

Phew...It's hot

Just got back from a very excellent time in Geelong, meeting new people, and happily selling some of my wares. Thank-you!
Just letting anyone interested, that t.he online shops are a little bare of hand-painted crockery now. Not too sure if I'm continuing with that as a thing, but rather spending more time on the jewelry.

Interesting time

So, my friend wrote an awsome bit of writing about why copying is not ok in the current 'making' market place, and posted it to the Etsy forum...on my recomendation. Little did I know she would be bullied right off the page! If only my post got published at the end...The thread was closed. Basically it was a bun fight right there on screen!
So many people not getting the point...so threatened and hostile . I think what was written as comment by and large was so disgraceful, and as 'making' people we should be concerned with the greater and greater amount of samey-ness that is out there. Even if our product is as unique as we can make it. Shoddy and repetitive items do bring us all down...especially if they are less and less expensive.
One person wrote that they are finding it difficult to tell the difference between handmade and manufacted items...I do too. I get an icky feeling in a couple of shops where there is so much product, all the same and all hande made...apparently....but what about all that laser cut stuff...what's with that? Is that handmade?.....mmmmm ponderings will continue...by the way, I couldn't help myself. LOOK HERE
What was started in the same vain, has attacted so many copiers!!! It's hilarious. To my dear friend...They are all hopeless cases.

New shop

I will eventually be phasing out ETSY in favour of my own shop...all the fees and stuff are a bit of a pain, plus it's not like I'm selling out of stuff...I've only got a few things on the new shop, as I'm very low on stock at the moment. I've already paid for the listings on Etsy so I may as well leave the things there until they expire in Jan.

Big cartel...tiny little shop

I've just established my own little venue to sell things, most of my things are on Etsy still, but as things expire over there I think I will be doing my own shop...but, I don't have much extra stock at the moment and I'm experimenting with big cartel, so at the moment it looks a bit plain and I've got a bit of work to do.
